lyrics

It started out as a song
We had two babies born dead
The song was stuck in my head
But I couldn't sing it because everytime I cried
I told my wife that it was ok
Its just a song and someday
Our kids will laugh and hear this lullaby

Baby grew into a child, into a man
Into a world he had to understand
Mother would still crawl across the floor
to hold him up and rock him back and forth
She sang the same words that she always sang

I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be

Mother grew sick and old
Tired, weary
Asked her son “won't you come near me?”
She knew she didn't have much time to go
He held her up and rocked her back and forth
He sang the same words that she used to sing

I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be

Just like grandma used to sing
Just like happiness may bring melancholy to accompany
I'll pass these words along to you
May you sleep the whole night through

Sing the same words that she used to sing

I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be

This song was inspired by the children's book "Love You Forever" by author Robert Munsch. Joe used to read this story to his kids and we discovered that the author encouraged other artists to interpret the story into their art. I wrote this song for Thanks Buddy as our interpretation. - Chris
